Generally speaking, if your electronic device doesn’t respond, you can power down the device by holding down the power button for at least 10 seconds. The key factor is the amount of time the power button is held down for. 10 seconds is a conservative estimate even though many devices shut down after around 5 seconds.
NOTE: You can also disconnect the power plug and battery but we @roguehelpdesk.com feel it’s easier and less risk of possible damage to hold down the power button for 10 seconds.
SOME CAPACITOR HISTORY: Back in 2007 or so, Dell had a major recall for defective capacitors on their motherboards failing. Also, Apple’s original iMac (tray loading) didn’t have a “bleeder resister” that was supposed to drain the capacitor(s) that powered the high voltage CRT tube so you had to discharge it with a discharge tool/grounding strap. The official Apple discharge tool had an alligator clip on one end with a needle on the other that you’d touch the connectors under the suction cup on the back of the CRT to discharge.
QUESTION?*: Does this method drain the charge from capacitors? And do different capacitors/configurations have different “drain times”? (*Need to confirm)
